A Wind Storm

On Friday, Nov. 6, a hurricane, tornado, cyclone, whirlwind, or whatever those uproareous winds are called - the kind that knock some things down and lift others up -- passed in the vicinity of Mine LaMotte doing more or less damage. It struck the place of widow Laborat in the flatwoods, and did considerable business, considering the time it was at it. Next, it turned it's attention to the farm of 'Squire R. Womack. Here the wind, with but few preliminaries, invited the 'Squire's rails, boards, planks, cave-spouts, and everything movable-about the place to take a pleasure excursion in the atmosphere, to which they readily assented, followed by the smoke-house, hen-house, well-house, and many other things not in the habit of taking sprees. Even the substantial dwelling was moved slightly on its foundation, interfering somewhat with the pleasures of a party of relatives and friends who were taking dinner at Mr. Womack's on the occasion of the marriage of his son, Levi Womack.

From there, the storm cut an ugly figure through the timber some four miles to the place of J. W. Nations on Coldwater. Here it filled the roar full of trees for a quarter of a mile, laid down a line on fence, crossed the creek, and cleared off a hillside within 200 yards of Nations' mill. From there it went -- no where, we hope.
